City Escapes & Beach Breaks

Cuba

Located approximately 90 miles from Florida Keys, in the West Indies, Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, spanning an area of over 109,000 square kilometres. It is made up of the main island and various smaller islands, including La Isla de la Juventud. The country is said to be stuck in the 1950’s mainly because of the Cadillac’s and old infrastructure. The capital city, Havana is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its beaches are among some of the most beautiful in the world, Varadero beach is paradise for any beach lover. Its a haven for relaxation.

It’s just a real shame that our visit was overshadowed by the hardships that the country is facing. We visited shortly after COVID and due to the decline in tourism, the country was really struggling. Cuban politics is complex and we cannot get into it on here but we could feel its effects. We struggled to find proper food due to the economic sanctions placed upon it by the USA. We would visit Cuba again but only when the politics and the living standards improve.
